About 90% of the seeds in the threshing unit are separated from the bunches and along with the chopped straw, they fall on the seed tray through the anti-threshing holes. Ten percent of the remaining seeds in the cluster (Kezel) are also separated in the separation unit of the combine and return to the threshing unit.

The movement path of the harvested product in the threshing, separating and cleaning units
The separating unit consists of a number of straws, which, while oscillating, first separate the remaining seeds from the stem. Secondly, the stubbles are moved out of the combine.
To prevent the occurrence of a critical flow of straw and stubble in the upper space of the straw hopper, hanging curtains are used under the name of retarding curtains.

In some combines, the separating unit does not have a straw separator, and in them, a rotating separator (rotating cylinder) is used to separate the grain from the straw and stubble.
