In order to perform the harvesting operation correctly, in addition to the mower being ready, the fodder and the field must also have suitable conditions. These conditions are:
Fodder harvesting time
Adhering to the time of forage harvesting has a direct effect on the quality of harvested fodder. For example, the yield of the product is low in the early harvest and the quality of the product decreases in the late harvest due to the increase in fat tissue. Fodder plants are harvested by consuming vegetable tissues (alfalfa, clover, etc.) from the beginning to the end of the flowering period.
If we want to have high-quality fodder, we must harvest the product before flowering, but it is usual to harvest products such as alfalfa when 20% of the plants have flowered.
ground conditions
If the ground is wet at the time of harvesting, the soil will be compacted by the traffic of the tractor and the fodder will dry later.
Therefore, they usually stop watering about a week before harvesting, but immediately after harvesting, irrigation is started so that the regrowth of fodder does not suffer from dehydration. If the crop is dry, it is better to harvest in the morning dew, otherwise, the harvest should be done after the dew has cleared.
The direction of movement of the motor when picking
Before starting the harvesting operation, it is necessary to choose a method that maximizes the quality of the harvested product, maximizes the machine's performance, and minimizes the depreciation of the machine and tractor. In rear-mounted mowers, there are two common ways to move according to the shape of the plot of land.
A) Peripheral method:
This method is suitable for parts where the land does not have a high elevation such as streams and ridges in leaky irrigation, and secondly the shape of the land is close to a square or a circle. In this method, the first row is reaped counterclockwise and the next rows are reaped clockwise.
B) Round-trip method:
This method is suitable for parts where the length of the land is far more than its width, or because of the atmosphere and ridges, etc., the tractor cannot be easily moved in the direction of the length and width of the land.
In Iran, the round-trip method is more common, because usually due to the leakage irrigation method, the lands have ridges and ridges, and it is not possible to harvest in any other way.
The steps of doing the harvest with the mower in a round-trip way
1- Connect the mover to the tractor and put it in transport mode.
2- Move the mower to the farm under the supervision of the apprentice and place it at the beginning of the plot of land.
3- Start the mover.
4- Set the mover to work (adjust the level and height).
5- After taking the necessary measures for harvesting by segmenting, place the mower near the ground at the beginning of the path.
6- Put the power transmission axis in round engine mode and set its speed to 540 rpm.
7-Put the tractor in gear so that the speed in front of it is 6-8 km per hour. (After mastering working with the mower, you can set the forward speed at 8-11 km per hour).
8- Place the mover on the ground using the hydraulic lever at the same time as the movement starts.
9-Mow the top and bottom of the ground (2 or 3 rows) so that movement in the top and bottom of the ground is easily possible.
10- Collect the harvested fodder from the path of the tractor.
11-Mow two lengths of land counterclockwise.
12- Harvest the next paths clockwise. In this situation, the harvested product of the first row should be placed between the wheels of the tractor.
13- After reaching the end of the ground, lift the mover from the ground with the hydraulic system of the tractor and place it on the ground again on the way back.
Harvesting with a mower in a reciprocating method
To go around the end of the field with the mower, raise the mower as little as possible so that it does not hit the ground while going around.
14- Pay attention to the working condition of the mower while controlling the way of doing the work. If the sound of the motor changes, stop the tractor and cut off the transmission of power to the motor, but do not approach them before the rotation of the cylinders stops.
15- If there is a big obstacle in the path of movement, cross the obstacle by changing the direction or stopping the rotation of the power transmission axis and raising the motor at a low speed.
Note: If the width of the land is large, it is divided into parts with a width of about 20 to 30 times the width of the mower, and after completing one part, the next part is harvested.
Note: perennial fodder plants grow from the crown, so it is better to harvest fodder from a height of about 10 cm from the soil surface.
