mowers are divided into two groups based on the method they use to cut fodder:

1- Knife cutter mower-reciprocating or comb mowers: in which the scissor method is used to harvest fodder.

2-Rotary mower: in which the impact method is used for cutting. Drum mower, disk mower, hammer mower-Flail mower are among rotary mowers.

Drum mower

Drum mower, which is also called rotary mower with vertical axis or Chinese grass, is the most common mower in Iran. Drummowers are usually made with 2, 3 and 4 cylinders, of which two-cylinder types are more common especially in Iran.

2 to 3 small blades are mounted on these cylinders in a hinged manner. The blades are hingedly installed on the cylinder so that they are not damaged in case of collision with obstacles. Under each of the cylinders there is a tray or a protective shield like a shoe, which moves tangentially to the ground. This tray is used to adjust the cutting height.

In these mowers, the rotational motion of the tractor's power transmission axis is transferred to the components of the power transmission of the mower by the girdle, and after changing the direction and increasing the rotation, it reaches the rotating cylinders up to about 2000 rpm. As the cylinders rotate, the blades attached to the cylinder tray rotate and harvest the product due to impact. In the two-cylinder type, the movement transmission system is in such a way that two opposite cylinders rotate, as a result, the harvested fodder is lined up on the ground.

Power transmission system in a type of Drum mower

The high rotational speed of the rotating cylinders causes material to be thrown around, which is very dangerous. Therefore, in order to prevent injury to the user or the people who are working next to the mower, a protection is installed on them, which is usually made of metal and its wall is made of tarpaulin, etc.
