Sugarcane is an important sugar plant with a long history of cultivation. It is rich in sugar and is used in the production of both white and brown sugar. Sugarcane juice, abundant in essential nutrients, is highly nutritious and healthy. The stalk of sugarcane, containing 14 to 17 percent sucrose, is utilized in the manufacturing of paper, cardboard, as well as, after sugar extraction, its by-products such as molasses and bagasse are used in the production of alcohol and animal feed, respectively. Sugarcane is a monocot plant, meaning it does not undergo crop rotation and is cultivated independently. After a harvesting period of approximately 5 to 6 years, it undergoes a resting period before being cultivated again. In India, sugarcane and rice are commonly cultivated side by side.
